Woodingdean, Brighton is a new care home development consisting of 80 residential bedrooms with en-suite showering facilities over 3 floors of accommodation. Each residential unit consists of 16 bedrooms with a maximum of 2 units per floor. Each unit is complemented by communal dayspace facilities, assisted bathing facilities and has a dedicated nursing team based within the unit.
Residential accommodation is orientated over the heavily sloped site to maximise views over the downs to the south with unrestricted views of the ocean beyond. Access to these views also prompted the inclusion of an external roof terrace for both residents and their visitors with seating and dining facilities, garden aread and activities and a specially tiered garden with multiple plateau terraces.
The aesthetic of the building was to create a contemporary building which suggests luxury residential living in contrast to the adjacent school and hospital buildings which give an institutional feel to the development site.
