DWA Architects are very proud to have been the winners of two Health Care design competitions. Both occasions involved the design of purpose built Hospices for local charities. The Prince of Wales Hospice at Pontefract, West Yorkshire was the first of these and HRH The Prince of Wales as Patron of the charity took an active part in the project. DWA's winning concept minimised the amount of circulation spaces by utilising a figure of eight floor plate, consequently greatly reducing construction costs, but also producing a more homely and manageable environment. The Reedley Hall Hospice was also a most challenging project due to the orientation and shape of the site. In order to suit internal planning, the entrance had to be located externally in a less prominent position and so the design of roof was used to bring importance to this area. Since undertaking these two projects, DWA Architects have been involved with the design of Health Centres and Surgeries. DWA Architects continue to be one of the most active designers of Care Homes in the UK and are therefore constantly undertaking Health Care design also in this context. |
